What is an echocardiogram:
Echocardiography shows the size, structure, and movement of various parts of the heart. These parts include the heart valves, the septum (the wall separating the right and left heart chambers) and the walls of the heart chambers.
Why an echocardiogram is recommended:
Heart murmur or abnormal heart sounds
Cough or respiratory difficulty
Fluid accumulation in the lungs or body cavity
Exercise intolerance
Collapse/syncope
Thyroid disease
Hypertension
What to expect at the echocardiogram appointment:
All studies are sent to a board-certified cardiologist via telemedicine for interpretation.
A written report will be sent to the ordering DVM in 3-5 days, and they will contact the pet owner to discuss results.
Patient Info:
Do not need to be fasted
Estimated time for testing is 1 hour
2 small areas on the chest will be shaved to achieve images
